Nimrod Expedition Partipicants: (from left to right) Frank Wild, Sir Ernest Shackleton, Eric Marshall and Jameson Adams.
A cool, authentic soundtrack of Sir Ernest Shackleton (recorded on an Edison Cyclinder, from 1910) speaking about their Nimrod Expedition (1907-1909) when they had to turn back when only 97 geographical miles away from the South Pole, due to lack of food... at that stage, still the furthest journey South ever made. The man he describes in the recording who narrowly escaped the crevasse fall was Frank Wild (in photo, left). Wild’s ashes were recently moved to South Georgia Island to be buried alongside The Boss.
